A growth in demand for property in UK cities has led to increasing rents and landlords deciding to sell property and land to developers. This has placed rising financial burdens on pre-existing operators of grassroots music venues, who are often situated in areas that are popular for redevelopment, and made them vulnerable to a more liberalised planning system. Agent of Change is a term that is used to describe various approaches to controlling the relationship between new built development (typically residential), and extant noise sources, in this case music venues. Alex Mann from Music Venue Trust explains how agent of change works, and talks about the campaign that MVT embarked on to get agent of change recognised by policy makers and politicians in order to help protect vulnerable music venues for the future of the UK music industry. v/ Alex Mann
